In summary, this article highlights the brutality that some face from police officers. Human rights in this article are being overlooked and not being taken seriously. There have been many cases that have been unsolved yet they are substantial enough to have someone put effort into finding evidence against these policemen. In the article, it talks about how, “It is only when we have enough evidence that the cases are filed, then we can say a case is solved”, and so what they are saying is that unless there is a lot of evidence they will not look further into the case. Many cases need someone to put in the effort to find the evidence but in this situation it seems to be that they are attempting to protect the police officers that are violating Human Rights. It states that few cases are actually solved so that proves how no one is putting in the time to help out the citizens and that to think the cases that come in are only the reported ones so there could possibly hundreds more of unreported human rights abuse cases. There are so many cases of police brutality such as homicide and rape yet nothing seems to change and no police officers are being punished, leaving the citizens helpless in a sense. No one should be subjected to this kind of abuse and this is why police officers who overstep the importance of Human Rights should be punished.
This article shows the neglect of Human Rights violations and its negative impact on others. As article 5 states, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”, yet it is clear that this is not taken seriously by policemen as people are being treated inhumanely. All people have the right to not be subjected to this kind of treatment but these people who are not getting the justice that they deserve have to deal with the hard truth that the police officers who commit these injustices aren’t being punished. Another violation includes article 7 which states, “All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law. All are entitled to equal protection against any discrimination in violation of this Declaration and against any incitement to such discrimination”, the violation here is that many people who are reporting these cases are not having someone look into them fully to find that evidence in which would put these policemen at fault. Everyone deserves to have the government protect their well-being as a person and convict these people even if they are police officers. Also, the government should realize that Siervo is protecting these men by saying their abuses fall under article 11 of the penal code, which set the justifiable circumstances allowing the use of force yet is has a negative impact on others. No person should be subjected to this unjustifiable treatment, every person has the right to be treated as a human being and nothing less.
Why is the government allowing this ongoing mistreatment of their citizens? Shouldn’t police officers be taught the importance of Human Rights before they are given their credentials?
