Suffering in Silence Based on the novel Here Be Monsters! by Alan Snow, The Boxtrolls was released in 2014. The movie focusses on Eggs, an orphan who was raised by subterranean trolls called “boxtrolls” due to the fact that they wear boxes. He believes he is one of them until one day he encounters another human, quickly realizing he is not a troll but a human. It shows from the point of view of the trolls, but also some from Winnie. This film, directed by Graham Annable & Anthony Stacchi, was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. With a rating of PG, and running 96 minutes, it is perfect for the family and it also showcases many “human” rights violations in the feud between humans and boxtrolls. The boxtrolls were forced to be hidden, the people were scared of them and also had much hatred towards them for no reason. A violation of article 2 is shown when Archibald Snatcher starts catching and killing boxtrolls. This violation caused people to fear them even more because the understanding is that they need to be terminated. The people are taught to fear and hate the boxtrolls based on false knowledge as it is, but adding this extra fear gives basically no chance for the boxtrolls. . Article 7 is violated because of such discrimination, no one knew much about the boxtrolls yet they still discriminated against them. Since the boxtrolls were given no chance to begin with people just went with what others thought, the boxtrolls were evil. No one took the time or chance to figure out the boxtrolls. The characters tend to clash a lot, basically boxtrolls and winnie versus Archibald Snatcher and his team. Although the boxtrolls out numbered Snatcher’s team, they were dwindled down to just a handful. After meeting Eggs, Winnie decides she wants to help the boxtrolls. She attempts to make the people aware of the boxtrolls and that they are not killing monsters, she fought against Snatcher from violated article 9. There was a scene in which hope was restored, when the boxtrolls and winnie were able to take down snatcher. The people were made aware of the boxtrolls and they were finally freed from all the discrimination and torture. The boxtrolls were free. The boxtrolls movie was overall a very good movie. It showed the fight that the boxtrolls had to give, and really tugs on your emotions. It shows that human rights are nothing to mess around with.
