Welcome! This website will showcase literary skills of Braydon Gartley, a student from Mrs. Linnerth's 11U English class at JHSS. This website will explore different pieces from many areas.
Grade 11 English has been a roller coaster ride. I enjoyed Mrs. Linnerth as a teacher and for the most part I enjoyed the presence of my classmates. The course had some very interesting topics that kept me engaged. Studying the novel Indian Horse was interesting for me because it included hockey but also it was an eye opener on indigenous people and residential schools. The human rights violations theme was very important, it taught me many new things and made me have a new perspective on many things that were otherwise looked over. This class did not only teach me new concepts but also taught me things about completing work, and handing in assignments on time. I struggled near the end with completing assignments on time due to work habits but also the amount of assignments in the last part of the semester. It would have made it easier if the assignments were more evenly distributed throughout the whole semester, instead of just the second half. This would help for handing in on time and stress for students. I also think that having the course solely online caused problems, having to write things physically adds variety and change to the course material. I felt that all the assignments in the course were fair for the grade 11 university level, having the right amount of difficulty and thought process. Overall, the course was very fun and informing. It had weaknesses, as does everything, but it was well structured and all the information was delivered clearly and concisely.
